The Pinewood Derby is starting to be a big thing around here. Maybe it is the fact that we have four boys in a row and will eternally have 1-2 cub scouts participating in it!
This was my first Pinewood Derby that I wasn't in charge of........that was nice :)
I got to just sit back and cheer for the boys. We still have two cub scouts, so two cars to make again this year. It is so fun watching them choose their designs, fine tune their construction, add layers and layers of spray paint, and get the car ready for the big race.
Nathan won this year! (don't tell the older brother that we are excited the younger one won!)
There is just no telling what car will win when you get there. Sometimes its the thin ones, and sometimes its the thick ones........who knows? Matthew did get third place, so they both got to advance to the District Derby. Two big races in one week, what is more fun than that?
Each boy chose his design and we cut it out with the band saw.
(and maybe I was cutting out some other things that day too)
Sanding, painting, drilling, adding weight....
And YES, if when drilling holes to add weight, remember it is possible that end of the car may explode, the boy will start crying, and back to the scout office it is to get a new car kit!

Here is Nathan at the beginning of the Pack 120 Pinewood Derby
I took a lot of video, and not so many pictures! But here are the final 3 fast car creators.
And the winner of the Pinewood Derby---
the car's name is N8 (that's "Nate")
My flash obliterated the cool N and 8 on the tail of the car.

District Pinewood Derby with a potential of 3 boys from 15 different packs.
The first race of the night, Matthew is racing his friend from home!

Nathan took 4th place overall!

And Matthew made sure I took a picture of him after his FINAL Pinewood Derby with his career collection of cars. His first two cars won Gold medal 1st places, and his last car won 3rd place. I can't believe his time in cub scouts is almost over!
