Fun in St. George

We made it down to Grandma and Grandpa's for the first time.  Sixteen hours straight in the car, but we made it!  St. George is beautiful.  Here we are on the first day, enjoying the hiking and the red rock everywhere.

Mark smuggled these glasses in his backpack.  Apparently he knew it would be sunny in St. George!

Quilts Everywhere

Need a new place to hang a quilt?

How about............

the bathroom!

I was trying to do a low cost bathroom makeover here. I don't want to pull the countertops or cabinets yet. Haven't done the light fixtures or sink. But some new towels and new shower curtain were just what it needed..........and a new coat of paint too! I couldn't find a shower curtain I loved, so I had to make a quilt with some FABRIC I love. The other requirement was working with this TEAL countertop that my mom put in in the 90s. It went with lovely cranberry and teal floral wallpaper, and linoleum to match. We have since put in tile, but the counters had to stay for now. Good thing TEAL has made a comeback lately, with its new companion, RED.

The other thing I have been thinking of are new ideas of places for quilts in my home. I already have a throw for the couch. I don't have sprawling wall spaces available. So I decided a shower curtain would be a great place. Maybe a weird idea, and I know..........the boys MAY ruin it with their hands and whatever else they do in there. But, that is OK. I love it. And I think it is safer than on their BEDs! This was my first time doing some straight line quilting. I really like the effect.
So here are the pictures. Just finished up the binding today, clipped it up, wiped the mirror for a picture (and the counters, and the toilet), and ta-daaa!

And for those of you wondering, I didn't put holes in the top of the quilt. I found some great clips on ebay that are meant for curtains. They have the ring with a dangling claw clip that holds very well. The weight of the quilt seems to be doing great, and I clipped it right with the plastic liner behind.

Easter is coming!

We wore our Easter clothes last Sunday, even though that really only entailed two new dresses for the girls---but don't tell the boys that. We want to get several weeks out of them!
But this created a down pouring of discussion about Easter coming..........
are we going to have eggs? are we going to find them? is it tomorrow? are we going somewhere?
For Family Night on Monday, we taught an Easter lesson to reiterate the real reason for Easter, and this special celebrated week. Every time Eliza sees a picture of Jesus, she says, "Jesus died."
"Yes, he did," I say.
"He's alive again. He's resurrected." she says.
"Yes, he is!" I say.
"Jesus love me." she says.
"Yes, he does," I say.
"Jesus love you. Jesus loves Matthew, Miriam......."and so forth
This is our daily conversation lately : )

We are grateful for this Easter time to celebrate. We are trying to pull out the real meaning amidst the eggs, the bunny, the baskets, the thickest Sunday ads of the year plastered with Easter ads........
We are thankful that Jesus Christ lives!

Happy Spring Days

If you ask my kids what my favorite thing to do is, they will probably say, "work." They really are right in some ways. My favorite "work" is digging around in the dirt, planting flowers, pruning raspberries, tilling the garden----so we had the BEST kind of day on Saturday. We followed it with the best kind of fun.
The boys made a fire, we roasted hot dogs, and of course--s'mores. We were all dirty head to toe from pruning, weeding, digging, and playing. I am sure the dirt made the s'mores that much better. We sat around the fire until dark not wanting the day to end. But we were worn out with work and fun. Everyone was showered, and I think
asleep within two minutes of hitting the pillow. We love a day of family work and fun.
